HANOI, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam decided to join the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) which aims to prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), said Vietnam's ministry of foreign affairs (MoFA) spokesperson Le Hai Binh on Wednesday.
Binh made the remarks in response to enquiry over the participation of Vietnam to PSI in capital Hanoi. He said, after studying carefully all aspects of the PSI, Vietnam announced to join the initiative based on the spirit of supporting the declaration dated September 4, 2003.
"The decision of joining the initiative reflects Vietnam's consistent stance on supporting international cooperation for the common goal of preventing the risk of spreading WMD, transportation systems and related materials, contributing to ensuring international peace and security, in accordance with national, international law and the power and resources of each country," MoFA's website quoted Binh as saying. "Vietnam will take part in implementation activities of PSI within its practical capabilities," said the spokesperson.
